ALL ABOARD! TROLLEY CONNECTS UMC, FONDREN

The Fondren Express Trolley is now providing transportation from the University of Mississippi Medical Center to the Central Fondren Business District.
Daily trolley service will be available from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
“We are happy to have a cooperative agreement with Fondren Express to provide this service to our employees, students, faculty, and visitors,” said Dr. David Powe, associate vice chancellor for administrative affairs.
The trolley runs a continuous 20-30-minute “loop” between St. Dominic Hospital to the east, Millsaps College to the south and the Central Fondren Business District to the north. Three different stops will pick up and drop off university riders. They include the bus stop in front of the Norman C. Nelson Student Union, the University Pavilion and the porte cache at the main hospital entrance. The trolley will take riders to stops near restaurants and shops in the Fondren Business District.
Fondren Express also is waiving its usual 75-cent round-trip fare for the balance of 2007. Riders may board for free from any of the three pick-up spots on campus for the remainder of the year.
“I am excited about providing a convenient way for the community of University Hospital to get away for a quick bite or for families visiting patients to have a way to take a break and have a change of scenery,” said Capt. Ron Mills, the trolley’s “pilot.” “The Fondren Express is here to serve, and I look forward to building relationships with the various entities within the overall University Hospital community.”
