HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR TAPPED TO LEAD INSTITUTIONAL SERVICES AT UMC

To adequately support the University of Mississippi Medical Center in its efforts to develop, expand and implement services and programs, Paul Trussell, UMC’s current director of human resources, has agreed to accept the responsibilities as director of institutional services, effective immediately.

In his new role, Trussell will have more global and strategic responsibilities at the institutional level, such as leading the effort to enhance employee relations and services. He will continue to report to Dr. David Powe, associate vice chancellor of administrative affairs, and support Powe’s office in the analysis and implementation of business plans and services designed to support the mission of UMC.

“It is felt that this move would place Mr. Trussell in a position that would enable the Medical Center to better utilize and leverage his talents and abilities, as well as allow him to be a greater asset in making UMC a nationally recognized, outstanding academic health science center,” Powe said.

Trussell’s duties will entail working primarily on administrative and infrastructure issues, and he also will provide counsel and support in the analysis of program alternatives that require executive oversight and management.

Powe said the Human Resources Department has done an outstanding job and expended a great deal of resources over the last several years to redefine its work processes and to implement best practices. Trussell served as human resources director for more than eight years.

“Under Mr. Trussell’s leadership, there is a foundation in place and roadmap in hand. UMC is now positioned to begin this journey forward into the future,” Powe said. “We are very excited about this move and the opportunities it will provide us within the Administrative Affairs Core Team, to offer greater and more expansive support to the mission of UMC.”

A nationwide search for a human resources director will begin within the next few days. In addition to his new role, Trussell will remain director of human resources until a new director is named.
